Happy International Nurses Week
When we think of being empowered, we think of having the capacity, strength, skill, wisdom, and compassion needed to function at an optimum level. True empowerment is not merely measured by how we see ourselves, but by the quality of care felt by those we serve. In 2 Samuel 4:4, we are introduced to Mephibosheth, the son of Prince Jonathan and grandson of King Saul. When tragedy struck the royal family, his nurse immediately took action to save his life. Though he was injured during the escape, his life was spared because the nurse responsible for his care moved with urgency. This reminds us of the sacred role you play as nurses. Nurses are often present in moments of crisis, pain, weakness, and uncertainty. You can’t prevent every pain, scar, or struggle, but through your compassionate and selfless service, many lives are saved, restored, and given hope. Like Mephibosheth’s nurse, you are empowered to act quickly, serve compassionately, and preserve life. Later in life, Mephibosheth received another blessing — he was invited by King David to sit continually at the king’s table. He was not treated as a mere visitor invited only on special occasions, but as one who belonged there daily through the king’s grace and favor. While we often think of empowerment from an educational, emotional, mental and social perspective, and through a conducive work environment that supports fulfilling our duties, these important areas still lack a critical component — what I call “Divine Empowerment." When professional training, emotional stability, mental strength, social support, and healthy work environments are combined with Divine Empowerment, the result...AN EMPOWERED NURSE — recharged, strengthened, and ready to save lives! Just as the nurse reached out to save Mephibosheth, Jesus Christ reaches out today to save and empower you (Divine Empowerment). And just as King David reached out to Mephibosheth and invited him to eat continually at the king’s table, Jesus Christ, the King of kings, invites you to feast daily

Prayer
“Heavenly Father, thank You for reaching out to save and empower
me. I accept your offer, and I look forward to receiving continually from your table so I can remain aligned with you for the work I do as a nurse. Today, I remember my oath to be pure and to be faithful in my profession. Holy Spirit, strengthen my hands, renew my mind, guide and guard my heart, and use me as an instrument of healing and compassion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
